UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — A life-changing accident in 2014 that left him in a wheelchair for three months strengthened entrepreneur Abdallah Abu-Sheikh’s determination to practice conscious leadership.

This approach has led to Abu-Sheikh’s reputation as a world-renowned visionary, hailed for launching groundbreaking, future-ready platforms centered on sustainability, mobility and digitalization, led by unconventional strategies and strong business ethics.

Abu-Sheikh is particularly passionate about inspiring young people and sharing with them his belief in taking initiative on projects rather than waiting.

It’s a message he learned from experience.

Her father had an aviation business based in Beijing, but it collapsed in 2013 after his death.

“I was still in my second year of college at the time, but that’s when I had to start learning what a business is or what work is. Before that, I was completely sheltered by my father and family, and I had no idea what making money was, or even why it mattered,” Abu-Sheikh said in a recent profile in the Middle East edition of Entrepreneur magazine.

This led Abu-Sheikh, at the age of 17, to become the breadwinner of his mother and seven younger siblings.

Abu-Sheikh’s early ventures focused on renewable energy and reached $700 million in assets within three years of moving to sub-Saharan Africa as a teenager.

Now one of the leading entrepreneurs in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, he is currently leading the development of a revolutionary new “ultra-platform” that will bring together consumer technologies, products and services. selected.

The platform, specifically designed to address the “platform fatigue” felt by many users, is being launched by Astra Tech, a UAE-based investment and technology development group, which Abu- Sheikh co-founded and is the CEO.

Another of Abu-Sheikh’s highly successful projects is RIZEK, a localized digital marketplace launched in 2020 and later acquired by Astra Tech in 2022. RIZEK aims to meet the lifestyle needs of UAE residents through from verified service providers. Obtaining more than $10 million in funding, the app was ranked among the most funded startups by the Middle East edition of Forbes.

Abu-Sheikh often speaks on regional and international platforms such as TEDx, delivering speeches and thought leadership talks on startup culture and fundraising, business strategies, growth and diversification, digital transformation and more.

He will be speaking on Monday February 6 at the LEAP Tech conference in Saudi Arabia and was also one of the guest speakers at GITEX, the annual IT trade show held annually in Dubai.

Despite all of his successes, or perhaps because of them, Abu-Sheikh remains steadfastly committed to fostering youth and entrepreneurship in the region.

As he said in a recent profile in the Middle East edition of Entrepreneur magazine, “I feel like I have the energy and wherewithal to continue to impact more people, and so , I will continue to try to create more impact. If I am able to inspire other people to start building locally, then we will have people who grow up with the mentality that they can build from the region…we have our own people…. We have our own innovators, entrepreneurs, people we can look up to.

Abu-Sheikh’s early ventures focused on renewable energy and reached $700 million in assets within three years of moving to sub-Saharan Africa as a teenager. With this experience, he is a strong supporter of entrepreneurs who start young and take initiative.
