APC imposes age limit of 35 for young leaders

The Interim Planning Committee for the Extraordinary National Convention of the Congress of All Progressives has set the age limit for aspirants to the position of youth leader at the levels of the party structure at 35 years.

This, the Punch learned, followed the adoption of a recommendation by the National Progressive Youth Conference, held in Abuja, in June this year.

Member of the Lobbying Committee and Niger State Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chiefdom Affairs, Emmanuel Umar revealed during the campus conversation on youth participation organized by Yiaga Africa, at the Federal University of Technology in Minna on Tuesday.

He said, “Since a young person is between 18 and 35, why do we have people over 35 as youth leaders? Because we want this inclusiveness, we want youth participation and involvement.

“The youth at the conference recommended it to the Guardian Committee and the Guardian Committee approved it.”

He said the results of recent APC congresses of local and neighborhood governments showed that the recommendation has since taken effect.
