Devon youth groups secure charity funds

Youth groups in East and Central Devon are set to benefit from a £3,200 share funded by VOYC Devon (Voluntary Organizations for Young People and Children) and the Community Safety Partnership. VOYC is an independent charity that provides infrastructure support (connection through communication) to non-profit organizations and groups working with and for young people and children in Devon.

The communities that will benefit are Dunkeswell, Honiton, Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary. The funding will go towards activities for young people, including visits to local theatres, fun nights at youth clubs with bouncy castles and new equipment, such as pool tables.

Tom Coultard, CEO of VOYC Devon, says, “We are extremely grateful that the Community Safety Partnership is willing to work with us to support our network of youth groups to provide additional opportunities for young people. VOYC Devon has worked with the community team at Community Safety Partnership and Space Youth Services to ensure that funding reaches groups doing valuable work with young people in East Devon communities.

Katie Hales of Space Youth Service will be visiting clubs shortly to view merchandise and get feedback from young people on activities and new equipment. Youth groups who were members of VOYC Devon’s East Devon networks were invited to apply for small funding pots to enable them to provide additional work in February and March.

The06 at Ottery St Mary said: “Our youth group hasn’t had any new resources for a little while, so having new equipment, thanks to this grant, will freshen up the place and give us new things to do. .” Dunkeswell Youth Club said: “The young people of Dunkeswell are very grateful for the funding (after having to close for three weeks due to Covid) which will provide exciting sessions throughout March. Something for everyone from two bouncy evenings with Churchy Castles, Professor Bumble bringing circus skills to a multi-story theater workshop. All this in addition to having a new set of Unihoc to accompany us for a few more years.
