Jefferson Library Offers Youth Activities During Winter Break | Raccoon Valley Radio

Jefferson families looking for entertainment for their children during the winter break can sign up for a few programs with the Jefferson Public Library.

Youth Services Librarian Stephanie Hall said family story time will be on Dec. 22-29 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the children’s department. The event includes not only a group story, but also games and crafts. She talks about how successful this event was last month.

“Last month we had our first Family Story Time since I’ve been here and we had over 45 people here. But it was fun. We read about three stories, they did crafts, they socialized, they played games, they looked at books. And this was all done before the library opened, so we’re the only ones here at the library at that time.

As for those in Grades 6-8, there will be Teen Gaming Days on the same days at Family Story Time on December 22 and 29, but with a different time from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Hall says December 22 will be board game day and December 29 will be card game day. She describes how this idea came about.

“This kind of flowed from the idea of just getting together. I have a little group of college kids that would come here and they would sit and play different things and they would come over to the kids’ side every now and then and they would come in and say, “Hi.” That’s kind of where it comes from. Just their input on what would be fun to have.

The Family Story Time registration deadline is December 20 and the Teen Gaming Days registration deadline is December 21. Both programs are free.
