MANISTEE — The Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church of Manistee has committed to the Armory Youth Project with a donation of $100,000 to be spread over five years.

“As part of the Manistee community, we make this donation to support youth missions,” Jackie Harms, church board chairperson, said in a press release. “We believe in what the Armory Youth Project does to provide young people with a safe and supportive place to go, and we’re thrilled to help fund their operations – not just with a one-time donation, but a five-year commitment to provide some fiscal sustainability.

According to Amy Wojciechowski, executive director of the Armory, this level of commitment — particularly over five years — is another vote of support for how the Armory serves the youth of Manistee County.

“We are blessed to have such a wonderful gift from Good Shepherd and their donation will go directly to our operating budget, enabling us to serve our children through the four pillars of our mission: educational, emotional, physical and spiritual development,” said Wojciechowski. in the release.

The Armory Youth Project offers free after-school and summer programs for youth in grades 6-12. It is a 501(c)3 organization that operates solely through the support of donations and grants. The Armory’s vision is to create a thriving youth culture in Manistee County where every person feels valued, finds a pathway to opportunity, and has the tools to achieve a brighter future.

Youth at the Armory benefit from programs designed to help develop essential life skills. Programs range from cooking classes and gardening to Junior Achievement, Young Life, and basketball. A full list of programs is available at
