By Benjamin Flowers: The Eastern Division of the Belize Police Department continues its community outreach campaign with a number of activities this week, aimed at promoting unity among at-risk youth.

Today, officers took a group of children from 10 different Belize City neighborhoods for a bike race at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex.

East Division Commanding Officer Deputy Police Commissioner Howell Gillett, who spearheaded the initiative, also rode alongside race participants to symbolize the department’s support for young people across the city.

“These children will be networked through a police-run WhatsApp group to show them that they can live together despite being from different areas,” Gillett added.

Community activities continue tomorrow with 25 at-risk youth heading to two Under-19 football games, and again Friday with teams from Mahogany Heights, Ladyville, Rocky Road, Mayflower Street, Krooman Lagoon, All Saints and Belama phases 4 and 5 .

Gillett noted that all activities are taking place with the support of the business community.
