“India’s future depends on providing better education to young people,” President Ram Nath Kovind said at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu’s fifth annual convocation on Thursday. He said education is the biggest catalyst.

“The future of our country depends on the good education of our young people. Institutes like IIM Jammu nurture our youth. These young talents will build the India of the future. They will improve people’s lives and make the country stronger,” the president said.

Speaking about the National Education Policy (NEP), he said, “We know that the National Education Policy seeks to position India as a ‘knowledge hub’ in today’s knowledge economy. . It seeks to equip our youth for the world of the 21st century while preserving our ancient values which are still valid today. For India to become a global knowledge hub, our institutes of learning must be globally comparable. »

He was happy to see that the number of Indian establishments in the global ranking is gradually increasing. The President added that with the convergence of technologies and opportunities, many start-ups have achieved great success and are described as the emerging pillar of the Indian economy.

The mindset of being a job giver and not a job seeker among young Indians is one of the key factors in our country which has one of the best start-up ecosystems in the world, he added. The President noted that IIM Jammu, in collaboration with DICCI and CII, will set up a special diversity unit to assist prospective entrepreneurs from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The president advised students to remain lifelong fast learners and relearners. He said the role of rapid technological change is going to be disruptive. “The lifespan of technologies is getting shorter. Consequently, the lifespan of management and leadership styles will also be shorter. To deal with such a scenario, they need to move from a mindset of “using the known” to an approach of “exploring the unknown”. They must move beyond their comfort zones into areas of uncertainty. They must turn challenges into opportunities. They must be “pro-changers” while being sensitive to the “non-changers” to convert them into supporters of change. They have to look to tomorrow while learning from yesterday,” he said.

He advised them to keep an open mind, an open heart and a strong will. He said that a very good entrepreneur, a good manager or a good business leader is one who believes in doing well by doing good. “Excellence and ethics go hand in hand.”
