From now until Sunday April 3, local youth are encouraged to help clean up their communities and take pride in where they live.

According to local Steven Armstrong, this is the second time the project has taken place.

“I decided to do this program because it’s embarrassing to see all the litter along the roads in our area,” Armstrong explained.

Each child 14 and under who picks up a garbage bag is invited to post a photo of it on the event’s Facebook page. He will then receive a gift certificate for a free pizza from Supersport Pizza.

Gift certificates are courtesy of Supersport Pizza and Steven Armstrong of Point Realty.

Additionally, every child who participates will be entered into raffles for giveaways such as Reds tickets, COSI tickets, and more.

“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, but the free pizza and drawing for giveaways is for children 14 and under only,” Armstrong wrote via email. “(We) are doing (this project) now because the weather is breaking, and everyone is ready to go back outside, and the area really needs to be cleaned up after the long winter we’ve had.”

The Facebook event page is titled “Fayette County Cleanup 2022” and was created by Armstrong.

“The last time we did this project, the kids were really proud of the work they did. Many of them returned to their areas and picked up more trash later in the year. I often heard children scolding people who were also littering, ”he explained. “I would just encourage parents and school organizations to get their kids out and give something back to the community. The kids really enjoy being part of these community projects and maybe with the adults seeing these kids doing this work they might think twice about littering in the future. We live in a beautiful region, we must be proud of it.
