Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Minister Charles Griffith urged local and Caribbean administrators to come together and create more opportunities for young people who aspire to play sport at the highest level.
Griffith said there was too much talent in the Caribbean for young people to be denied sporting opportunities and he called on sports administrators to find ways to improve the situation.
He said the need for more regional age group competitions is more urgent now because the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused young athletes aged 11-15 to miss several opportunities.
“I attended the CARIFTA Aquatic Championships for two nights, and was amazed by the dominance of the swimmers in the 11-12 age group for Barbados,” he said on a courtesy call. from Captain Kraigg Brathwaite of Barbados Pride and West Indies Test this week. (RA)
