Youth Travel Tech Company, Global Work & Travel, launches its own social network


The global leader in gap year travel has launched its own bespoke social media platform for its customers, designed to help them connect with other solo travelers while traveling abroad.

Global Work & Travel has rolled out its social platform in its client app, gWorld, which it describes as “game-changing technology” for the youth travel industry.

The platform allows the company’s travelers to connect with each other before and after landing on their trips and to organize social gatherings, events and parties. It also provides access to a new feature called Global Getaways which allows customers to join unique side trips with other like-minded travelers organized by the company’s Community Managers.

“Our travelers have told us that the biggest hurdle to going abroad and doing a working holiday or teaching abroad or any sort of work trip and long-term trip abroad is that they don’t know anyone, and it’s scary to go solo and leave your comfort zone at home,” said Global Work & Travel CEO and co-founder Jürgen Himmelmann.

“We are now breaking down that barrier to travel with this industry-first gap-year technology.

“That’s why we decided to develop and launch our own social network which was customized and developed in-house by our talented technical team, does not use any off-the-shelf software or solutions that other brands might use. , and it now lowers that barrier for young people who want to travel abroad,” Mr. Himmelmann said.

gWorld Social has been in development for 18 months during Covid and a beta was launched in January in Canada to test and refine the technology and user experience. It is now available to Global customers in all continents except Africa.

Recently, 15 of Global Work & Travel’s clients in Canada used gWorld Social to host a tenpin bowling and drinking meet independently in Banff, without a Global representative hosting.

“We used the platform to fly a whole group of us to Canada together for an evening,” said British traveler Samantha Bruty, 31, from Barnstaple in north Devon.

“I thought we would only have a handful of people, but the response was much better than expected and we had a great session. The company paid for it too!

Australia-based Global Work & Travel is one of the world’s leading and largest “work and travel” marketplaces. The social media platform is integrated with Global’s personalized travel portal for its travelers. With its next release due in the coming weeks, gWorld 5.0, which has also undergone a major revamp over its predecessors, it helps travelers do more than just plan and track the progress of their trip.

The app also allows travelers to:

– Access a range of online courses to learn the basics of the language or improve your skills before or during your stay abroad, particularly in the hospitality and service sectors.

The company also plans to extend this social media platform to its sister site,, so that the online travel agency’s customers can also connect and meet other travelers in the same area.
